Who is this qualification for?

The qualification aims to provide learners with the required knowledge, skills and understanding in order to effectively coach or mentor others within an organisational context. The qualification is for managers and those with significant responsibility for effective coaching and mentoring as part of their daily role within an organisational context.

The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Effective Coaching and Mentoring will validate your developing skills and experience of coaching with a recognised qualification.


Requirements and Duration

To achieve the Level 5 Certificate in Effective Coaching and Mentoring the student must achieve three mandatory units:

1. Understanding the Skills, Principles and Practice of Effective Coaching and Mentoring within an Organisational Context

Report format – 4,000 – 5,000 words. Three tasks with sub-sections.

2. Undertaking effective Coaching or Mentoring within an Organisational Context

Portfolio format – Covers 18 hours mentoring – Portfolio of mentoring diary, reflective log, feedback from mentees, CPD plan, feedback from supervisor.

To complete this assignment students are required to submit a recording of a mentoing session. The tutor will provide feedback on the mentoring skills, behaviours and practice used in the session.

3. Reviewing Own Ability as a Coach or Mentor within an Organisational Context

Reflective Review format – SWOT analysis, approx. 3,000 words and supporting documents (from Portfolio).

Duration: We ask students to set their own deadlines, with an expectation that all three assignments are completed
within 9-12  months of the start date.


Course Features

  • Tutorial for each assignment.  Tutorials for each assignment will be scheduled once every eight weeks.
  • Templates.  Template documents such as mentoring diaries, mentee feedback, CPD records are available to download and use.
  • Learning resources.  The full knowledge requirements for the qualification will be available on Aspire’s Hub.
  • Access to Tutor.  Ongoing access to Aspire’s Tutors and Assessors is available.  Assessors can provide feedback on AC1 of Assignment 1 to support students who want to check that they are on the right lines.
  • One free resubmission.  Students must pass every assessment criteria (Average 10 per assignment) to pass the assignment.  If an assignment requires resubmission, comprehensive feedback will be provided, and the first resubmission will be free.

How this qualification works

This course assumes you have done all the learning previously with us here at Aspire. 

After Payment & Registration you will be invited to join our online digital learning Hub and begin your journey. 

You will have access to all the resources and assignment briefs. 

You will be invited to join a welcome call, which walks through the requirements and helps you plan for completing the qualification. 

There are regular tutorials for each assignment, and there will be a link for you to join whichever session suits you best. All you have to do is add it to your diary and attend. These tutorials will help prepare you for your three assessed pieces of work and the coaching activity requirements for the Certificate. 

When you have finished each assignment, you’ll be able to upload your work directly onto the Hub. 

In conclusion, this award offers a unique and efficient way to achieve a recognised coaching qualification. By completing the required assignments and coaching practice, you’ll validate the skills and knowledge to successfully coach inside or outside an organisation.

The qualification cost is £779 per person. The fees are payable in one instalment upon registration. They can be paid by bank transfer, by credit/debit card or invoice.
