Aspire Development delivers Level 5 apprenticeship programmes in leadership & management

Brief

Wincanton is a leading third-party logistics and supply chain solutions provider in the UK and Ireland. Working in a diverse range of industry sectors from defence, milk, energy, retail, consumer goods and construction, Wincanton is committed to providing innovative, flexible solutions that help customers to compete in their chosen markets with confidence.

Wincanton asked Aspire to design, develop and deliver several leadership and management development programmes suitable for both junior and middle managers, to improve leadership and management capabilities within the business, to enable people to lead in new and improved ways.

What we did

Working together with Wincanton, Aspire Development has designed and begun delivering several business-focused Level 3 and Level 5 apprenticeship programmes in leadership and management to provide individuals with skills, knowledge, strategies and tools to make a positive difference to their performance, their team’s performance, their working relationships and their results.

What does Wincanton say?

11 months on from when the first programme launched, we spoke to Nicola Bevan, Human Resource Business Partner at Wincanton, to find out how Aspire’s apprenticeship programmes work for the business.

Nicola said, “Wincanton is a highly commercial environment, and the apprenticeship programmes have really helped us to offer learning and development opportunities to more people.

“Since the introduction of the apprenticeship levy, we have been able to offer Aspire’s programmes to a larger audience, to people who we wouldn’t have usually been able to. It’s fantastic”.

Discussing how the programmes benefit the business, Nicola adds “We have worked with Aspire on numerous occasions, and the apprenticeship programmes deliver significant returns on investment for Wincanton. The key metrics speak for themselves, for example the ‘Get Ahead’ programme saved £1m for the business by applying the skills and strategies learned on the programme.

“The apprenticeship programmes are specific to Wincanton’s operating environment. With each course running for 12 months, behavioural changes are implemented gradually which makes them sustainable. “

Commenting on Wincanton’s commitment to development, and the positive impact this has on the business, Nicola said, “Investing in the development of the employees at Wincanton has a positive impact on the motivation of the workforce. In turn, this promotes performance, which then delivers value back to the business”.

She added “The programmes have helped us to up-skill the business. For many it has opened a door to greater career opportunities. We have seen some colleagues progress into new roles, and others develop within their current roles”.

“What I really like is how Aspire’s programmes are real business drivers. The programmes really add value to both individuals and the business. Alison and the team are reactive, proactive, and have really helped with the development at Wincanton”.
